How To: Choose The Perfect Sunglasses To Suit Your Face Shape
Sunglasses are not just summer accessories especially if you live in Lagos, then you know that we get sun all year round. While sunglasses protect our eyes from radiation and also cover our eye-bags (on days when sleep just evades us), they are also one of the most important fashion accessories we should own. However, because they come in different style we should buy sunglasses that suit our face shape. We have put together a few sunglasses styles that suits different face shapes.
With full cheekbones, narrow forehead and jaw, you want to give the illusion of a longer face so it is best to choose glasses with dark frames, as they narrow the face and bring its contours closer to an oval shape. To balance your facial proportions, choose glasses with a wider width. For example rectangular frames, "cat eye", "butterfly" and aviator sunglasses are suitable. Do not wear round shaped glasses or coloured lens as well as glasses that cover the eyebrows.
With a broad forehead and square jawline, you need rounded frames to help visually balance and soften overall facial proportions. Do not wear wide or sharp geometric frames as they can overload your face's outlines. Large glasses, glasses with colored frames, glasses with oval, round, or teardrop-shaped frames, "cat eye" glasses and aviators are suitable for you.
With balanced forehead cheekbones and jaw, you do not want to disturb your face’s harmonious proportions. Therefore, you should avoid glasses that look too massive. it would be ideal to have frames as wide as your face, or a little wider. Make sure that the frame’s upper part is in line with your eyebrows. Butterfly glasses, aviators and cat eye glasses are suitable for your face shape.
With wide forehead and cheekbones and a narrow chin, you want to balance out the upper part of your face by making the lower part appear bulkier. Big-looking glasses won’t help, as they will just add more bulk to the upper part of your face. Aviators, round frames, wayfarers and bright or neutral coloured frames would be ideal to suit your face shape. Avoid embellished frames, butterfly and cat eye glasses.
A long face with narrow chin and cheeks, you want to make your face appear broader. Go for large, massive-looking glasses, with transparent lenses and slender frames that match the tone of your skin. Do not wear frames that are too narrow for your face.
